What's fresh and new in the life and work of Seska Lee.Week of March 8th, 2010Sorry for the silence. It has been a crazy couple of weeks. I have been busy with my dayjob, business trips and some major housecleaning. On top of that I was without Internet access for a few days. That part I rather enjoyed. It is a rare experience for me. Oh and I came down with a cold. My first in a year! Lovely. It has been a chest cold and my lungs are taking their sweet time to heal from it. Cough cough cough. That is what the last 10 days have been all about. - I did have a bit of fun this weekend though. I summoned all the energy I could muster to attend the Grande Burlesque Show. The talent was amazing and I so enjoyed myself. Immodesty Blaze was the headliner and was fabulous. Coco Frambroise did a fantastic cat burglar number. It was probably my number of favourite of hers. Gentry de Paris was so classic and stylish. I got to talk to her afterwards and she impressed me very much. I think I might have offended her though. I described her performance as neo-burlesque. I said that because even when recreating numbers I feel burlesque artists bring current sensibilities to their acts. We have different influences especially since the sexual revolution. We do not live in the same world women did in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Performing striptease is different because of it - no matter what music or costuming you use. Just a thought. But back to my fawning over the ladies. Amber Ray was just delicious. Her number was fast and snappy. I loved it. Renea Larous was brazen, sexy and hilarious. Some just to be able to handle the work. Some to protect their private lives. Some . I am sure there are other reasons as well. With a personal adult website there is some separation that occurs, but not as much as in other fields of the sex industry. Our content is life based after all. As an escort or stripper you give quite a bit of yourself to your clients that you need to keep some stuff back or you will burn out. Certain acts are off limits for clients and you save them for your private lovers. Some information is only on a need-to-know basis (often for a safety concern - stalkers abound in the in-person sex industry). SOme workers create oersonas to keep the work separate from their private lives. I wonder if there is a downside to this compartmentalization. Do you get so detached that you find yourself doing this also with your friends, family and lovers?
